Grant Band Instrument Repair is a full-service Band (& strings!) Instrument Repair shop located within Music & Arts @ 2340 South 17th Street, Wilmington, NC.
Faith Grant, owner and technician @ Grant BIR has been repairing musical instruments since 2008. Faith's primary goal for every instrument that comes through the shop, is to repair in such a way that the work done is a long lasting and quality repair. Every instrument, no matter if it's a student horn or a professional horn deserves to perform at it's highest potential. Grant Repair is dedicated to the ideal that every child deserves an instrument that plays with ease. If the instrument plays well, that eliminates a huge hurdle for our young musicians and allows them to learn, instead of struggle with inferior equipment.
Grant Repair has the capacity to do basic repairs, overhauls, complete restorations, or modify an instrument to suit your specific needs. In most cases emergency repairs can be taken care of within the same day, and most repairs are completed within 3-5 business days. If you have any questions about having your instrument restored please contact Faith at the link in the site menu.
Faith is the Repair Shop Manager at Music & Arts, so if you are renting a M&A instrument, she can take care of you!
Upon graduating from repair school in 2008, Faith has had the privilege of working with some of the most innovative repair technicians in the field. These technicians have shared their trials and errors, and have only furthered Faith's passion for quality, long lasting repairs. Faith's first two years of repairing were spent as a woodwind specialist in the suburbs of Chicago for the music company, Quinlan & Fabish. This immersion into a large (15 person repair shop), high quality based repair environment allowed her to spend invaluable time absorbing the work she was doing and also afforded the opportunity to use high-end equipment like Ultrasonic Cleaning, and using a Dent Machine to restore crushed flute bodies to almost new condition.
After Quinlan & Fabish, Faith moved to Portland, Maine to start her own repair shop (Maine Winds), and also became a repair contractor for the local Music & Arts. Repairing in Maine was a great experience, not only to hone the speed of repair but a great challenge to maintain the high quality of repair that she learned in Chicago. Working as a contractor and also as a small-business owner gave Faith the experience of working efficiently and also acclamate to doing a brass repair then immediately working on a piccolo or oboe. The diversity of what she might work on during the day really helped further her repair skills and ability to handle extreme differences in repair situations.
In May 2012, Faith packed up her shop and made the move to Wilmington, North Carolina. She didn't know what to expect, but was excited about making new business relationships and especially excited about meeting her new customers and working with new teachers! Since setting up shop, Faith has had a warm welcome to the Cape Fear Region and looks forward to many more years to come!
Faith has a Bachelors in Clarinet Performance (University of Central Oklahoma, 2006) and a Certificate in Band Instrument Repair (Minnesota SE Tech, Red Wing, MN, 2008).
